This five week workshop is based on prompts and exercises to get to the core of personal meaning. The focus is on exploration, intuition, and pushing out of your comfort zone. We will be experimenting with a variety of media. Directives include formal elements such as line, shape, space, color, and conceptual ideas with fast-paced timing based on discovery rather than finished products.

The first four weeks will be focused on the making. The fifth class will involve the artists curating and installing their work in their studio. That is when the group gets to discover interests, patterns and ideas that have emerged in the process.

Participants will not only develop their technical skills but also gain a deeper understanding of their artistic style and voice. By immersing themselves in the making process and consistently producing pieces, artists will have the opportunity to reflect on their work, identify patterns, and uncover recurring themes. This self-exploration and reflection are invaluable in helping artists to refine their artistic vision, and ultimately, find their unique visual language that sets them apart as creators.

"Lisa Pressman is a visionary, a brilliant artist, teacher and mentor to many. That is quite an accomplishment for one individual! It is not easy to find a professional and accomplished painter that is willing and able to so freely share herself and her craft. I took Lisa’s class “100 pieces in 3 days” in June 2023 at Castle Hill-Truro Center For The Arts. Throughout my life I have painted, been involved with ceramics and fiber arts and owned a flower shop in Manhattan and later became a clinician focused on trauma and grief. After raising three children and slowing down my clinical work, I have time to get back to my art, something that was always there and part of me, but I specifically wanting to get back to painting. I needed a re-boot, so I took Lisa’s class. This class, was the perfect conduit for me to explore different approaches to painting, specifically the use of pigment sticks and cold wax, which opened up an entire new medium for me to experiment with. We also worked with charcoal, ink and other miscellaneous materials on 6”x6” inch paper. The class was fast paced, which helped one from getting bogged down in details. Some participants were professional artists, some with art backgrounds and a few wanting to learn something new. Through gestural movements and mark making and the use of many different tools was exciting and fun. Lisa was very generous with her time and helped guide each of us when needed. She gave a talk on abstract art, composition and color, I feel as though I took an entire semester painting class in three days. I am looking forward to taking Lisa’s class on color this spring, she was truly an inspiration for all us that took her class."
